Does The Quran Say The Earth Is Flat?
There are some people who have wrongly accused the Quran of stating that the Earth is flat, but it doesn’t rather it includes messages that align with scientific observations made by geologists in the last few centuries.
the verses commonly brought up in support of the Flat Earth theory are
الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ مَهْدًا وَسَلَكَ لَكُمْ فِيهَا سُبُلًا وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَخْرَجْنَا بِهِ أَزْوَاجًا مِّن نَّبَاتٍ شَتَّىٰ "He Who has, made for you the earth like a carpet spread out; has enabled you to go about therein by roads (and channels); and has sent down water from the sky." With it have We produced diverse pairs of plants each separate from the others. [20:53]
it is he who has made the Earth for you as a carpet and has set in it Pathways for you and sent down rain from the sky causing various types of plants to grow.
وَالْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَاهَا فَنِعْمَ الْمَاهِدُونَ
And We have spread out the (spacious) earth: How excellently We do spread out!
[51:48]
the Earth we have spread out and how excellently did we smooth it!
وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا
"'And Allah has made the earth for you as a carpet (spread out),
لِّتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا
"'That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads.'"
[71:19-20]
and Allah spread out the Earth for you, to walk along its spacious Pathways.
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا
Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse,
[78:6]
have we not not smoothed out the Earth like a carpet.
وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا
And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse);
[79:30]
as for the Earth, he spread it out. no doubt there are different interpretations of these verses, but the allegations against the Quran arise from wrong translations of the Arabic language used in the Quran. to understand this further. let’s look at the various meanings attributed to the words related to the Earth.
