Ibn Abbas may Allah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) once passed by two graves, and those two persons in the graves were being tortured, he (ﷺ) said they’re being tortured not for a great thing to avoid, one of them never saved himself from being soiled with his urine, while the other was going about with defamations to make enmity between friends. he (ﷺ) then took a green leaf of a date palm tree split it into two pieces and fixed one on each grave, the people said oh Allah’s Appostle, why have you done so?
he (ﷺ) replied, I hope that their penalty may be lessened till they the leaves become dry.
in the above Hadith, it is clearly defined that the one who does not take precaution against urine, deserves the tor of the Grave, Imam Ibn Khuza Ymah reported in his Saheeh, on the authority of Abu huraairah, may Allah be pleased with him that the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, urination is the main cause of chastisement in the grave, that is for not having kept away from urine to touch one’s body or clothes.
One reason for this torment, might be that that not cleaning oneself from urine, causes ritual impurity and in the state of impurity the prayer of the person is not valid.
So it causes the annulment of the prayers, which is also another great sin.
Another Hadith reported by the Abu Hurairah(R), The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, that in general the chastisement of the Grave is that as a result of three things. three sins first is backbiting, the second is slandering and carrying tails, and the third was negligence with regards to drops of urine.
Who amongst us to some degree doesn’t commit these sins?
Especially in the first two backbiting and carrying tails even to learn backbite people, and regards to drops of urine, we need to perform istibra, what is istibra?
That we need to make sure that once we’ve cleaned ourselves, we need to be extra sure that no drops of urine come out and pollute our clothes, and our bodies. Those who don’t perform istibra and are not careful without you even knowing you will be committing this sin.
